Educate and familiarize yourself with all rules and regulations before fishing or hunting. "I didn't know the rules" is NOT an answer park rangers or environmental police will accept.

Fishing in the Park

The Aaron River finds its source within Wompatuck State Park and flows northeast to the Aaron River Reservoir. The dam that holds the reservoir in place was constructed from 1976-1978. Below the dam, the river continues to flow through the Town of Cohasset. While designated as a Class A water supply, the reservoir is unfortunately contaminated with mercury from an unknown source. Fishing in the park, therefore, should only be “catch & release”.

Hunting in the Park

While hunting is allowed in Wompatuck State Park, there are many restrictions as well as limits on when, where, & what you can hunt. Absolutely make sure you have the proper license(s) before hunting at the park. You may also need to take a Basic Hunter Education course before being able to get a hunting license in the state of Massachusetts.

For the most up to date & accurate information, always refer to the Massachusetts state website. It’s a great resource for all the information you’ll need to hunt in a Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) park.  And remember, you must check in with the park ranger any time you hunt in the park.
